Chris Shrift & The Rock N Roll Boys - Different Driveways
Pittsburgh-based songwriter Chris Shrift embarks on a new solo project rooted in Indie Punk and slacker Americana. Teaming up with Wisconsin-based record label, Outcast Tape Infirmary, Shrift is set to release his debut LP Different Driveways in May 2026. Former frontman and songwriter of Denver-based psych-rock outfit, CRITTR, Shrift returns to form both thematically and geographically in his newest solo work.
Having grown up in Western PA, Shrift’s upcoming LP explores the quiet disconnect of
returning to a place you once called home, but now feels unfamiliar. “The record sits with grief, isolation, and the slow work of making peace,” Shrift explains. “After moving back east and feeling more disconnected than I expected, I learned to meet a familiar grief in a new way.”
Fuzzy guitars and whimsical storytelling lay the foundation for Shrift’s newest work. Standout tracks “Networking” and “July” are riddled with wry, snarky lyrical quips and pulsing with post-punk grit. Meanwhile, mellower tunes like “Inherit” and “Subtle” straddle front-porch Americana and slack-jawed indie haze, taking listeners on a stumbly journey through the quiet frontier of Western Pennsylvania.
